CURTIS — This Saturday anglers of all ages as well as families from all over the U.P. and beyond will make their way to South Manistique Lake for the annual Curtis Fish Coop and Winter Carnival.

Community businesses have displays for buttons that can be purchased for kids so they can access the ice for free. Over 1,000 buttons were made and organizers said the goal is to get as many kids out on the ice as possible.

Along with the kids fishing event they also have an 18 foot pinata filled with candy and prizes for the kids. They will also have turkey bowling and hope to have hot air balloons rides available weather conditions pending. There will also be a sledding hill.

There will also be fishing tournaments for men’s and women’s divisions with the men paying out $3,000 for first place, $2,000 for second and $1,000 for third. The women’s tournament pays $800 for first place, $500 for second and $300 for third.

There will also be lawn mower races as well as a chilli cook-off. A warming tent will also be available.

The organizers expect between at least 500-800 kids for fishing this weekend. Events get underway at 9am with fireworks at dusk.

Starting at $3.50/week.
