CARNEY — It was a tough day on the court for the Carney-Nadeau Wolves as the girls fell 37-33 and the boys went down 53-39.

In the girls game, the Wolves forced 40 turnovers but had a hard time capitalizing on those opportunities. Freshmen Mckenna Thiry led the way for the Wolves with 15 points.

The Patriots jumped out to a 7-0 run to start the game as Sopia Vogel and Ilah Bancroft each had layups and Ellie Garrow hit a 3-pointer.

The Wolves answered back as Jenah Ernest drove to the basket for a layup then knocked down a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 7-5.

“We are still very young,” Carney girls coach Paul Polfus said. “We couldn’t hit shots and when you don’t shoot the ball well it is usually hard to win games.”

Patriots senior Jolie Seidel had nine points in the win.

“We knew we had to play clean coming into the game,” Seidel said. “We wanted to keep our foul numbers down and take care of the basketball. We did ok on the fouls but turned the ball over too much.”

The Wolves outscored the Patriots 10-4 in the second quarter and trailed 17-15 at the half. The Patriots came out of the locker room on a 8-0 run to start the second half.

The Wolves answered with a 9-0 run including a 3-pointer by Jayden Laurin and a layup by Isabelle Everard to cut the deficit to 25-24.

The Patriots extended the lead back to nine points on a layup by Ember Sponholz as the Patriots held on for the win.

In the boys game Goodman-Pembine wasted no time as they out scored the Wolves 18-10 in the first quarter as Auron Garrow had seven points in the quarter and Kolten Seidel had four points.

Sidel was the energy guy for the Patriots as he finished wit six points to go along with five rebounds and five steals.

“I just wanted to push hard and give it all I got,” Seidel said. “I have been working on my defense and just playing hard every game.”

Garrow added a pair of 3-pointers in the second quarter with the second one putting the Patriots up 27-18. Wailer Severson scored eight of his 14 points in the third quarter and the Patriots led 42-34 after three quarters of play.

“This game helped us build a lot of momentum,” Severson said.”It helped us get closer to .500 as we go into a long holiday break.”

The Patriots finished off the game outscoring the Wolves 11-5 in the fourth quarter.

We had a hard time making shots, Wolves coach Mike Polfus said. “We may have been down on energy after playing a night ago we just have to keep working and trying to improve.”

Goodman-Pembine won the boys JV game 66-40. Damien Walker led the way for the Patriots with 18 points.

The Wolves return to action during the Carney Holiday Tournament Dec. 29-30.
