Davey sets school record for 3-pointers as Braves beat Eskymos

ESCANABA — They say records are meant to be broken and that was the case here Friday night as Lonnie Davey broke the school record with 10 3-pointers as the Braves defeated the Eskymos 67-48.
“This feels amazing,” Davey said. “I didn’t think I would get this this season. This is something I wanted badly and hard work really does pay off.”
Davey hit his first 3-pointer of the game to put the Braves up 5-3. Alex Prins followed it up with a 3-pointer of his own to extend the lead to 8-3.
Davey connected again from outside late in the third quarter to put the Braves up 18-7 after one quarter of play.
Davey continued to heat up in the second half as he hit his third shot from downtown to extend the Braves lead to 20-7. Later in the second quarter, Davey hit back-to-back 3-pointers extending the Braves lead to 33-15. Davey had four 3-pointers in the second quarter and the Braves led 39-19 at halftime.
“Lonnie shot the ball well and shot with confidence tonight,” Braves coach Jake Keisby said. “He also did good things defensively for us and was a good all-around effort.”
Davey connected on a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter and the Braves took a 20-point lead to the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Davey knocked down a trio of three’s including the school record 3-pointer as the Braves picked up the victory, Davey finished with 36 points on the night and sophomore Alex Prins had a double-double with 21 points and 10 assists’
“This was an amazing night,” Prins said. “Me and Lonnie have been friends forever every time I passed him the ball I thought it was going in tonight. He’s always in the gym working on his shot and it was awesome to be able to celebrate this moment with him.”
Lennox Peacock led the way for the Eskymos with 18 points and Braden Cooper added 15 points in the loss.
Escanaba won the JV game 64-53 behind a 32-point effort by Connor Asgaard.
Gladstone will play in the Menominee Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29-30.
