Bay women sweep weekend games men split

ESCANABA — The Bay College Norse hosted the Terrace Bay Holiday Classic the women’s team earning a weekend sweep defeating Glen Oaks Community College 84-45 and Milwaukee Area Technical College 87-53. The men’s team defeated Glen Oaks Community College 94-75 and fell to Milwaukee Area Technical College 91-78.
Women’s games:
The Norse jumped out to an early 16-5 lead on a 3-pointer by Jillian Fraser then extended the lead to 26-7 on back-to-back 3-pointers by Nia Bower.
The Norse took a 48-18 lead into the halftime break. The Norse picked up right where they left off as Chloe Seymour drove to the basket for a layup and Vower knocked down her fourth 3-pointer of the night to put the Norse up 53-23. Bower finished the game with 15 points.
The Norse were led by Mckenzie Hoffmeyer with 18 points.
“Mckenzie was big for us,” Nose women’s coach James Fasserr said. “She is good on both sides of the ball and her defense helps set up good transition opportunities.”
The Norse followed up that performance against Milwaukee Area Tech as Lauren Zawada had a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds while Mckenna Hendrickson added 21 points in the victory.
The game was tied at 12 early. The Braves got separation as Bower knocked down a 3-pointer from the wing to take a 27-18 lead.
The Norse extended the lead to 44-24 at the half.
Zawada scored the first points of the second half on a layup and Hendrickson scored eight consecutive Norse points and Bay led 53-33.
Men’s games:
Trevor Nolan connected on five of eight 3-pointers and finished with 17 points off the bench in the win.
“That is my role on this team,” Nolan said. “Come off the bench bring energy to the team and everyone fed off it and it sent the momentum our way.”
The first Nolan 3-pointer came with 9:23 to go in the first half to put the Norse up 16-15. With 6:08 to play in the first half Nolan hit back-to-back 3-pointers to put the Norse up 26-25.Nolan hit again from behind the arc with 11:00 to go in the game to extend the Norse lead to 74.55 then Nailed his fifth with 9:19 to go and the Norse led 79-57.
Trevon Vann led the Norse with 19 points and 10 rebounds and Emerson Droubie added 16 points in the win.
The Norse dug themselves too big of a hole in their matchup against Milwaukee Area Tech as they fell behind 12-2 out of the gate.
“We just got to far behind early in the game,” Norse men’s coach Matt Johnson said. “We just didn’t come out with a lot of energy early but I feel our guys did a good job of tightening their way back into the game.”
Emerson Droubie hit back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the deficit to 12-8.
The Stormers went to the halftime break with a 44-37 lead The Norse came out of the halftime break on a 11-2 run to give the Norse a 48-46 lead.
Jayden Hackett hit a 3-pointer to put the Stormers back up by 10 at 69-59 and the Norse were not able to close the gap.
