Broncos set to battle Harbor Springs in state semifinal

With everyone making their Thanksgiving plans, the Bark River-Harris Broncos will take on Harbor Beach at 1 p.m. today for the opportunity to make Thanksgiving plans of their own a trip to Ford Field for a chance to play for a state championship.

The Broncos come into this matchup at 10-1 with playoff victories over West Iron County, Iron Mountain and a thrilling 22-21 victory over Maple City Glen Lake in what has been known as the Glen City Miracle after junior Gionni McDonough returned a kickoff 92 yards to the house off a lateral on the last play of the game the Broncos converted on the two-point conversion to seal the win.

“It felt absolutely amazing,” McDonough said. “I was looking around for flags abd when I didn’t see any the thought was we have to get the conversion and we did.”

The Broncos will come int this game as the underdog which they have veen most of the way through the playoffs.

“We like being the underdog,” Broncos coach Caleb Adams said. “It allows up to play more free and we have done a good job in that role so far in this postseason.

Harbor Beach enters this matchup 12-0 with victories over Reese, Unionville-Sebewaing and most recently a 26-15 win over Beal City who ended up winning it all last season.

The Broncos have a well balanced rushing attack and Gabe Spear and Ben Knauf have stepped up at the quarterback position with the injury to junior Dane Schmitt. This matchup is a good one on paper as both teams are in position to take the next step for a chance to fulfill a dream that will last forever. The Game will be broadcast on The Eagle 107.3 and on the NFHS Network.
