Last Friday the previously unranked North Central Jets traveled to Massie Field in Bessemer to take on the Gogebic Miners. The Miners took an early 6-0 lead. The Jets answered with a 4-yard touchdown run by senior Ben Stage to tie the game at six. The Miners went into halftime with a 20-12 lead and extended it to 26-12 on a 13-yard TD run in the third quarter.
The Jest responded with a 57-yard TD pass to Pryor LaBonte to cut the deficit to 26-18. The Jets were not done there, as Stage connected with LaBonte on a eight-yard TD pass and a two-point conversion to tie the game at 26.
Gogebic took the lead again on a 36 yard TD run in the fourth quarter to go up 34-26.
The Jets answered back as Stage ran it in from four yards out but failed on the two-point conversion and the Jets trailed 34-32. The Jets put the game away on a 19-yard TD pass from Stage to senior Brody Mercier to give the Jets the 38-34 win.
The Jets have moved to No. 5 in the U.P. Football poll with the win and will closeout the season Friday as they host the defending champions Forest Park.
