GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Braves had upset on their minds, but undefeated Kingsford failed to cooperate in a 3-0 (25-21, 25-8, 26-24) volleyball triumph on Senior Night here Thursday.

“We found a way to win,” Flivvers’ coach Jaclynn Kreider said. “Our middle (hitters) continued to work and play well, but Gladstone played very inspired. They hustled and definitely had more energy than we did. We also haven’t had much energy in practice lately.”

The Flivvers (17-0) secured this Great Northern Conference match on a service ace by junior Mya Brunswick.

Gladstone (8-12) took an 18-17 lead on a kill by senior Addy Blowers in the third set.

A net violation tied the score before the Flivvers surged to a 21-18 lead on an ace by junior Emma Strom.

The Flivvers were up 24-21 prior to committing a hitting error and four-hit and net violations enabling the Braves to tie the score.

Kingsford regained the lead on a kill by senior Cassie Olson, setting the stage for Brunswick’s match-winner.

An ace by freshman Mckynzee Kreider gave the Flivvers a 17-12 cushion,

The Braves then got a sideout and senior middle hitter Lilly Johnson provided them with a five-point service run for their final lead in the match.

Gladstone took a 6-3 lead on a Flivvers’ return error.

A kill by Alyvia Kowalski gave Kingsford a sideout before tying the finale at six on a return error by the Braves.

The score was tied at nine before Kingsford regained the lead on an ace by senior setter Karly Trevillian.

Gladstone got within 13-12 on a net violation before the Flivvers atoned for that on a kill by junior Mylee Kreider for a sideout and two-point lead.

The Braves took an 18-17 lead in the opener on a passing miscue by the Flivvers.

Kingsford surged to a 22-19 lead on a Braves’ net violation.

Gladstone was within 22-21 following a kill by Blowers before Mckynzee pushed the ball over the net for a two-point lead.

Trevillian added an ace and a block by Olson secured the first set.

It was all Kingsford in the second set as a five-point run by Trevillian helped the Flivvers gain a 16-6 cushion.

The Flivvers were up 17-7 after getting a sideout on a kill by Brunswick, who followed with a six-point run for an insurmountable 23-7 advantage.

Freshman Staysha Jarski concluded the opener by tipping the ball over the net for a kill.

Mylee Kreider hit four aces and Mckynzee Kreider got three.

Olson and Jarski were Kingsford’s leaders at the net with eight kills each. Trevillian collected 11 assists and Mckynzee Kreider finished with eight.

Sophomore Alivia Nash led the Flivvers on defense with 11 digs. McKynzee Kreider added 10. Mylee Kreider tallied six and sophomore Lakyn Wallis had five.

Coach Kreider said the Flivvers were going to view some film Friday before hosting Crystal Falls Forest Park, Calumet and Marquette in today’s quadrangular meet.

“The girls need to be able to see that,” she added. “They (Gladstone) did what they needed to give us a run.”

After today’s meet the Flivvers will visit Escanaba Tuesday.
