Big Bay outlasts Hannahville wins in shootout

HANNAHVILLE — Big Bay de Noc soccer wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in its 4-3 shootout win over Hannahville here Wednesday.
That was our second shootout of the year,” Black Bears Alex Ranguette said. “The first one didn’t go our way, so I’m glad this one went our way.”
The Black Bears first goal of the game came :18 into the game as junior Parker Pederson found the back of the net.
“It felt awesome to get that goal,” Pederson said. “The pass was great and scoring that quick was a huge momentum boost for us.”
The Black Bears extended their lead to 2-0 with 23:10 to go in the first half as senior Joey Rochefort collided with the Hannahville goalie and got the ball in the net.
“I didn’t even know I scored.” Rochefort said. “The keeper hit me so hard in the knee that the whole bottom half of my leg went numb and I got back up and heard people celebrating and I asked Parker if it went in and he said it did so I was very grateful for that.”
The Black Bears held their 2-0 lead all the way to the halftime break.
In the second half Hannahville got on the board with 21:58 to go in the game as junior MJ Smith found the back of the net on a well placed kick in the corner of the goal.
Moments later, the Soaring Eagles tied the game on a goal by senior Sam Beaver with 19:55 to go in the game.
The game remained scoreless through the remainder of regulation. Hannahville had a great shot on goal with less than a minute to go in the game but Black Bears freshman goalie Finley Morris turned the shot away, sending the game to a shootout.
“They got a couple of goals on us with good shots,” Morris said. ” I was able to get the save on the shot that would have won the game and that was huge for our team.
In the shootout Sophomore Elijah Cooper and Rochefort each had goals. Hannahville got a goal from sophomore Dawson Lea but the Black Bears held on for a 4-3 win
