RAPID RIVER – With both teams battling on the field for the win, the Rapid River Rockets
ended up taking the victory and left the scoreboard 58-32 against the Forest Park Trojans Friday
night. The Rockets had a total of 649 offensive yards against the Trojans throughout the game.
The first points made on the field came from the Rockets when they got their first touchdown in
The first quarter with 7:40 on the board, with junior Lane Olson making the pass to junior Joseph
Thorbahn for a 29-yard pass and Jared Huskey making the catch for the 2-point conversion
leaving the score 8-0. At 7:21 on the clock the Trojans came back with a Touchdown and 2-point
conversion leaving the score tied 8-8.
From the midway of the second quarter to the end of the 4th is when Rapid really started to
hammer it in. Senior Caleb Roberts was the only player from the Rockets to sack the opposing
quarterback not once but twice. There were 2 touchdowns in each quarter with 4 of them going to Joseph Thorbahn and 1 to senior Jared Huskey, junior Rowen Flath, sophomore Hayden Kee, and freshman Coen Smith.
When asked about the game, Coach Joe Smith said “I thought it went good, there was 3 parts
to it, offensively we moved the ball up and down the field, Defensively we broke down a couple
times but we came up with some good turnovers, and for them being last year’s state
champions so I thought we did really well in controlling the tempo of the game.”
He was then asked about the key players for the game. “We have Lane, our quarterback he’s a
3-year starter for us, he’s thrown for over 300 yards tonight, and he’s hit a couple different
receivers being senior Jared Huskey, sophomore Hayden Kee, Coen Smith, a freshman all for
touchdowns in the air, but he also ran in one.” Joseph Thorbahn and Rowen Flath just
destroyed them on the ground run tonight too for touchdowns. So, it was duel headed, and they
couldn’t stop us once we got the run down, which has been our issue this year since we haven’t
been able to run the ball steady but today it clicked. Rowen Flath ran like a wild man, and it was
nice to see him blossom tonight as a running back. So, when you take Rowen, Joseph, Lane,
Jared, and then you sprinkle in the younger guys like Hayden, Brennen, and Coen it’s hard to
stop us.”
For the Rockets, the next game will be home against North Dickinson. “It will be the hardest
challenge of the year, they are a big team, they are fast, they’re strong. But this was the win we
really needed to set up our guys knowing that they can go into that game and win.”
