ESCANABA — With the 2025 volleyball season in full force, Daily Press sports writer Adam Hinch got a chance to catch up with Escanaba senior Harlee Coolman to discuss a variety of topics.
Adam Hinch: When did you develop your love for the sport of volleyball?
Harlee Coolman: My mom played volleyball all through high school and I also have an older sister Jalin Olson who played and going to her games and watching her games. I wanted to be just like her. She has always been a big role-model to me.
AH: What do you like to do away from volleyball?
HC: I’m taking a lot of tough classes, so a lot of my time is spent studying. I also have a job and like to hang out with friends too..
AH: What is your favorite kind of music?
HC: I like everything. I’m really into country music right now but before a game it’s more of a rap or something upbeat.
AH: Do you enjoy the long bus rides to games?
HC: To an extent, yes. I like them more after a win because everyone is all hyped up.
AH: What is your favorite subject in school?
HC: Probably AP Biology. It’s really interesting and I’m going into the medical field so that class will definitely help.
AH: Do you have a college in mind you want to go to?
HC: Right now I want to go to Grand Valley State University.
AH: What is your favorite food?
HC: my dad makes a polynesian stir fry that is one of my favorite meals. Other than that it’s definitely seafood.
AH: What is your favorite moment from your volleyball career so far.
HC: Probably last year when I got my 1,000th dig. That was like a crazy moment, my teammates were so excited for me but I don’t like being in the spotlight a lot but that is a moment I will never forget and as a team we do pumpkin carving among the team bonding that we do.
