Game Preview: Escanaba at Cheboygan

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eskymos will make the trip to Cheyboygan tonight for a matchup against The Chiefs.

The last time these teams met was during the 2014 season, with Cheboygan winning 13-12. The last Eskymos win in the series came in 2013 when they beat the Chiefs 33-21.

The Eskymos enter this matchup at 4-0 Coming off a 53-7 win over Sault Ste. Marie. Cheboygan comes in at 2-2 following a 13-12 win over Elk Rapids.

The Chiefs like to spread the ball around and operate primarily as a run first offense. Players to watch for Cheboygan are, senior Jeremiah Huntley and juniors Mason Johnson, Nolan Schley and Killian Miller.

The Eskymos look to continue on their great start behind senior quarterback Nolan Bink and wide receivers Alex Stalboeger, Ashton Rymkos, Graham Johnson. The Eskymos running game is led by junior Brody Ison as well as a great supporting cast of Jordan Gagne, Bryce Bichler, Alex Ison and Jacob Prey.

The Eskymos also have a good special teams unit with Bichler and Ben Sands handling return duties.

Cheboygan coach Bill Nesbitt said his team is looking forward to taking on Escanaba stating they are a good team that is well coached and our boys are looking forward to the challenge.

Escanaba coach Bailey Lamb said after the game last week against the Sault Ste. Marie, “We have to take care of our business next week against Cheboygan then get ready for Marquette and Gaylord but we have to take it one week at a time”

Kickoff is set for 7p.m. in Cheboygan and will also be homecoming for Cheboygan.
