Eskymos defeat Munising in tennis action

ESCANABA — Olivia Vogel made a triumphant return to the tennis court here Monday, helping the Escanaba girls post an 8-0 victory over the Munising Mustangs.

Vogel won No. 2 singles in a 6-4, 6-1 conquest of Munising’s Kinsey Hall.

“We had a full lineup today and things went well,” Esky coach Chris Ogren. “Olivia had missed a few meets recently and she started a little slow out of the gate, but she was able to come up with some big points at the end of the first set. In the second set, Liv looked like she settled in and played at her best. There was one game in particular that went to deuce 10 times before Liv finally put a few points together in a row and won the game.”

In No. 4 doubles, Carly Gorenchan and Katie Kievit defeated Eliot Dolaski and Harper Frusti 6-2, 6-0.

“They started off in a close match with the first set starting 3-2,” Ogren said. “Then they went on to win the next nine games consecutively. Katie did a great job of playing at the net and really moved well to find the ball and finish points.”

The Eskymos visit West Iron County Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
