ESCANABA — As the Escanaba Eskymos took the field for their home opener against Kingsford on Aug. 28 fans entered to see the new face lift to the Escanaba Athletic Field as the Esky Fan Club has worked diligently with local business and members of the community. The $450,000 dollar project was something that needed to be done.

“It is long overdue,” Esky Fan Club President Linda Beauchamp said. “It was a huge undertaking, I’m not going to lie. It all came about because they were in such bad shape and one day after walking around the bleachers I realized we had to do this .”

The Escanaba Athletic Field stadium was originally built in the 1950s after World War II as is one of the few remaining concrete stadiums in the state of Michigan.

The expansion added 156 orange stadium seats as well as new black metal bleachers to give the stadium the true Eskymo feeling.

The Eskymo Fan Club wants to give a special thanks to all of its sponsors including the family of Brian Larche, Bink’s Coca-Cola, Eskymo Fan Club, Rick and Glenys Hull of the class of 1969, the Hannahville Indian Community as well as its varsity, junior varsity and freshman seat supporters.

The Esky Fan Club is still raising money to finalize the project anyone interested should contact the Escanaba Fan Club.

Starting at $3.50/week.
