Meet the Racer: Wyatt Ammel

ESCANABA — As the Escanaba Motor Speedway prepares to crown the 2025 track champions on Aug. 23, Daily Press sports writer Adam Hinch got a chance to sit down with last year’s track champion in the youth micro sprints Wyatt “Wags” Ammel to discuss a number of topics. Ammel comes into championship night eight points out of the top five.
Adam Hinch: What got you into racing?
Wyatt Ammel: I was inspired to race by watching Dale Earnhardt and my dad Paul Wagner.
AH: What do you like to do outside of racing?
WA: I like to ride my 4-wheeler and when I get my dirt bike done I will be riding that.
AH: What is your favorite food?
WA: Mimi’s meatloaf.
AH: What is your favorite football team?
WA: The Detroit Lions.
AH: What is your favorite soft drink?
WA: Mountain Dew.
AH: What is your favorite subject in school?
WA: Recess.
AH: What is your most memorable moment from your racing career so far?
WA: Racing to support Easton Winling and winning the track championship.
AH: Do you like to hunt or fish?
WA: I like to fish. I have a 22 inch pike on my wall.
AH: Do you plan to continue racing for years to come?
WA: Yes it is something I really enjoy doing.
