More than 20 shooters and archers from three counties gathered at the Camp Gibbs Recreational Area in June for the annual 4-H Upper Peninsula Regional Shooting Tournament. Iron, Houghton-Keweenaw, and Delta counties competed in four disciplines: BB, .22, Unsighted Archery, and Open Archery. Youth competed in three age divisions (Beginner (ages 9-11), Junior (ages 12-14), and Senior (ages 15-19) for all 4 classes. Each attendee was allowed to enter in multiple events.
The Senior division (ages 15-19) had six events. Target Archery Unsighted senior division had MacKenzie Blume (Delta) earning honors over Aleah Simpson (Houghton-Keweenaw), and Trent Simpson (Houghton-Keweenaw). In Open Archery senior division, Emma Goldbach (Iron) took top honors over Harmony Scott (Iron). In BB senior division, Harmony Scott (Iron) earned the top spot followed by Riley Nava (Iron), and Trent Simpson (Houghton-Keweenaw). In .22 senior division, MacKenzie Blume (Delta) earned top honors over Harmony Scott (Iron) and Riley Nava (Iron).
The Junior division (ages 12-14) had 3 events. Target Archery Unsighted junior division had Ethan Malone (Delta) earning top honors over Leah Zamot (Iron). In BB junior division, Norah Strong (Iron) earned top honors over Browning Kittleson (Iron). In .22 junior division, Norah Strong (Iron) took the top spot over Browning Kittleson (Iron).
In the Beginner division (ages 9-11) four events were held. In the Unsighted Archery beginner division, Paxton Stensberg (Delta) earned the top honors followed by Daemian Sanchez (Iron), and Bentley Szanto (Iron).
In BB beginner division, Aiden Cronkright (Iron) earned the top spot followed by Paxton Stensberg (Delta), and Eiven Kudwa (Iron) placed third.
Special thanks for support from Camp Gibbs Recreational Area, Ojibway Archery Range, Gibbs City Pistol Club, Hiawatha Shotgun Club, Xtreme Outdoors, and Bump’s Burgers who donated space, range equipment, targets, ammunition, prizes, and food. These donations proved essential to having such a strong showing by local youth at the UP Regional Shoot in 2025.
