Meet the racer: Joshua Karnack

SANDS — After Sunday’s race at Sands Speedway, there are only four nights remaining in the 2025 regular season Daily Press sports writer Adam Hinch got a chance to sit down with the 17-year old 4-cylinder modified driver Joshua Karnack to discuss a number of different topics.

Adam Hinch: What got you into racing?

Joshua Karnack: My brother got started first and I spent a couple years watching from the stands and we would work on the cars at Al Wendrick’s garage and One day we were at the garage and Al told me to go out back that he had a surprise for me and there was a car to build and we got it done and I ran my first race out here at 13.

AH: What was your best moment so far from racing?

JK: I would say winning the memorial races as well as my first career feature win.

AH: What is your favorite subject in school?

JK: I would say shop class, because I love to build cool things.

AH: What do you do for fun outside of racing?

JK: I love working on cars and riding my dirtbike.

AH: Are you into any sports?

JK: I watch a lot of formula one racing, Lando Norris is my favorite driver these past few years.

AH: What is your favorite food?

JK: I have to go with buffalo wings.

AH: Are you a Coke or Pepsi guy?

JK: I like Coca Cola Zero.

AH: If you could go anywhere on vacation right now where would you go?

JK: I would go to Alaska. My brother moved up there recently and the pictures up there are beautiful?

AH: Having started racing at 13 how was the transition to regular driving when you got your license?

JK: It was definitely a learning curve having started in a race car out here we only go left so I definitely had a lot to learn.

AH: Do you have plans to move up in the future?

JK: Ya I would like to get a Camaro and get in that fuel injected class and see what that’s like.
