ESCANABA — The Escanaba Motor Speedway had a week off as it prepares for the back half of the 2025 season. Daily Press sports writer Adam Hinch got a chance to sit down with super mod driver Gunnar Hansen to discuss a variety of topics.
Adam Hinch: What got you into racing and how long have you been racing?
Gunnar Hansen: My dad got me into racing and I have been racing for six years. I started in a junior sprint then moved up into the 500 sprints then into this class.
AH: What is your favorite part of coming out and racing every week?
GH: Going fast on the track.
AH: What do you like to do in your spare time away from racing?
GH: I like to hang out with my friends and work on my race car.
AH: Are you a NASCAR fan and who is your favorite driver?
GH: A little, yeah. I like Kyle Larson.
AH: What is your favorite kind of music?
GH: I like country music.
AH: What is your favorite barbecue food?
GH: I love pulled pork.
AH: Are you a Coke or Pepsi guy?
GH: Coca Cola by far.
AH: What was your favorite memory from your racing career so far?
GH: I would say racing in the 500 class with Brett and Luke Labre, Jeffery Latach and Drake Degnan got to race against a lot of my good friends and the race I won went green-white-checkered with no cautions.
AH: What are your goals for this season?
GH: Get the car figured out. We have had some issues, so for me I would like to get everything to where we want it to be.
