Schone perfect, No. 4 Braves sweep Flivvers

KINGSFORD — She did it again folks.
After hurling six perfect innings in No. 4 Gladstone softball’s season opener last month senior Tia Schone has tossed another perfect game.
Schone struck out 16 batters across seven innings in a 6-0 win. The Braves claimed game two 19-4 to complete the series sweep and improve to 15-0 on the season. Eight of the final nine Flivver hitters saw their at bats end via strikeout as the Braves slowly chipped away on the scoreboard in game one. Senior Lauren Sundquist and sophomore Maddy Sundquist each earned three hits while combining for three RBIs while the former, an MIT commit, added a home run. Freshman Lauren Pare also earned an RBI.
Game two saw the Braves motor around the base paths as if it were the Daytone 500. In total, Gladstone stole 13 bases with sophomore Emma Trombley swiping four, freshman Ava Goodman capturing three, senior Alli Larson and freshman Tiahna Reynolds taking two and Lauren Sundquist and fellow senior Brooklyn Pendergraft swiping one each.
Pare earned the win in the circle, allowing four earned runs off five hits with a walk and two strikeouts across five innings while adding a double and two RBIs from the plate. Schone finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Lauren Sundquist went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBIs. Maddy Sundquist and freshman Malia Quigley each had two hits and combined for five RBIs. Trombley finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Goodman finished 1-for-2 with four runs scored, two walks and an RBI. Larson scored twice and drew two walks.
