No. 3 Eskymos sweep Negaunee, extend winning streak to 12 games

NEGAUNEE — When you’re hot, you’re hot.

And for No. 3 Escanaba softball, who extended its winning streak to 12 games on Thursday, it’s more than hot.

The Eskymos improved to 25-2 on the season with a doubleheader sweep over Negaunee on Thursday.

Here’s what went down.

Game one

Escanaba 10, Negaunee 0 (five innings)

Senior Grayson LaMarche had another big game. In other news, water is wet and pigs have yet to find a way to fly.

The soon to be Michigan Wolverine finished 3-for-3 from the plate with a lead-off double in the first, a solo home run in the third for a 3-0 lead and a three-run double in the fourth to lead 7-0. She also allowed three hits and struck out 11 in five innings of work in the circle.

The Eskymos also got contributions from an RBI single from Katey Lamb and junior Cam Buckley stealing home plate for a 2-0 lead after one. Lamb and senior Clara Braun each added an RBI single to cap off a five-run fourth frame.

Junior Addison Noblet earned an RBI single and Craun earned an RBI via sacrifice fly to lead 10-0 after five.

Lamb and senior maddy Mott each finished with two hits. Buckley stole two bases in the win.

Game two

Escanaba 9, Negaunee 7

Thursday’s finale saw senior Carly Bowden drive in four runs in the victory. The four-year starter behind the plate earned a two-run single in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead and cranked a two-run home run in the seventh for a 9-e advantage. She finished 3-for-4 on the day.

Esky also saw junior Harlee Coolman belt a two-run double and Noblet earn an RBI off a fielder’s choice to lead 4-0 after four.

Lamb finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Junior Landry Bray earned the win, allowing two unearned runs off three hits with a trio of walks and eight strikeouts in five innings of work. Mott allowed one earned run off two hits with a strikeout in an inning of relief.

What’s next

The Eskymos will trip to Canton to participate in the 2025 Michigan Challenge. The Eskymos will have guaranteed games against three Division 1 programs in Walled Lake Central, Waterford Mott and Grand Blanc, who sits at No. 5 in Division 1, on Saturday. The Eskymos could play up to three games on Sunday.
