Manistique softball sweeps Modeltowners

MANISTIQUE — A well-rounded team effort led Manistique softball to a doubleheader sweep over Gwinn. The Emeralds won the first game 15-3 and took the second game 8-7.

Ryleigh Rice collected three hits in four at bats, as the Emeralds took down Gwinn. Rice’s day was highlighted by an inside the park home run in the fifth inning that scored two runs. She also had singles in the first and second innings of the game.

The Emeralds scored eight runs in the fifth inning on their way to the win. Kamry Flodin grounded out to score a run and Kaylin Morrison drew a walk to score a run and the Emeralds got a pair of runs off a throwing error to score two more runs.

Alexis McDade earned the win for the Emeralds allowing three runs on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks,

In game two, the Emeralds built a five-run lead and then held on to defeat the Modeltowners in game two.

Gwinn got on the board first in the top of the first inning as Aubrey Paquin hit an RBI-single to right field and another run scored on a passed ball to put Gwinn up 2-0.

The Emeralds got on the board first in the bottom of the second as Kamry Flodin scored on a passed ball to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Modeltowners extended their lead in the third inning as Shawna Sundholm hit an RBI-single to the left side of the infield to go up 3-1.

The Emeralds tied the game in the bottom of the third as Ava Kuisner hit a ground ball and reached on an error scoring a run and Flodin grounded out to the pitcher scoring another run.

The Emeralds took the lead in the fourth inning, scoring five runs in the frame. Malia Blixt had a RBI-triple, then scored on an error to give the Emeralds a 5-3 lead. Flodin also tripled to bring in two runs.
