Manistique softball earns sweep over St. Ignace

MANISTIQUE — A pair of bases loaded triples propelled Manistique softball to a doubleheader sweep as it defeated St. Ignace 15-1 in game one and 15-7 in game two.

Aleah Larsen collected three hits including an RBI-triple in the third inning to put the Emeralds up 10-0. Larsen also had singles in the first and second innings of the game.

The other triple came in the fourth inning as Kamry Flodin drove in a run to put the Emeralds up 12-7.

The Emeralds jumped out to a lead early in game two as Keira Frankovich hit into a fielder’s choice but brought home a run. Bella Larsen singled to score a run and Alexis McDade was struck by a pitch bringing in a run that was followed up by a two-run single by Leslie Connin to put the Emeralds up 5-0.

The Emeralds added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning, as Frankovich singled to left scoring two runs.

Malia Blixt earned the win for the Emeralds allowing seven runs on three hits with 10 strikeouts and six walks.

“I’m very proud of the girls they performed very well today,” Emeralds coach Lou Kusiner said. “Malia did a great job for us on the (circle). She was injured last season and that put all the pressure and work on Alexis but she is healthy this season and her play is showing that.”

In game one, McKenna Davis drove in four runs as the Emeralds won 15-1. Davis tripled in the second inning scoring three runs. The Emeralds as a team posted eight runs in the second inning to take a 10-0 lead after two.

The Emeralds added five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning as Adele Ranney singled, scoring one. Bella Larsen hit an RBI-double and McDade had a bases-loaded triple that put the Emeralds up 15-1.

“We have really been focusing on batting the last few practices,” McDade said. “We have put in a lot of time on technique and following through at the plate and the results are starting to show.”

McDade also picked up the win for the Emeralds in game one allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts and zero walks.
