Manistique baseball sweeps Stephenson
MANISTIQUE — A pair of good hitting performances propelled Manistique boys baseball to a doubleheader sweep over Stephenson here Monday. The Emeralds took game one 8-4 and took game two 13-8.
Game one
The Eagles got on the board first, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by RBI singles by Chase Monette and Trevor Verba.
The Emeralds responded in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs. Masin Tryan had an RBI-single and later scored on a passed ball to cut the deficit to 4-2.
The Emeralds captured the lead, in the bottom of the third inning after Luke Benish singled to the left side of the infield to score a run. Bryson Wood was hit by a pitch to bring in a run and Mack Pugh hit an RBI-single down the left field line to put the Emeralds up 5-4.
Britt Frain earned the win for Manistique, allowing four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Game two
The Emeralds got on the board first as Cooper Curtis singled to the left side of the infield and Jeffery Lampin grounded out, each scoring a run.
The Emeralds added to their lead in the second inning scoring seven runs on five hits highlighted by a two-run single by Lampin and the Emeralds led 9-0.
The Eagles responded, scoring five runs on two hits in the top of the third as Monette had a two-run single and the Emeralds cut the deficit to 9-5.
Cole Watchorn earned the win for the Emeralds, allowing eight runs on five hits with two strikeouts and five walks.
