ESCANABA — Graduation day had an extra layer of happiness for Escanaba senior Kaleb Gagne.
He put pen to paper on Friday, signing his letter of intent to wrestle at Davenport University.
Gagne will pursue Cyber Security as his major, a field he has a high level of interest in.
“The field of it in general has interested me,” Gagne said. “I started off learning programming and more computer science during my freshman and sophomore years. As it progressed, I learned that I like cybersecurity more than the computer science side of it.
On top of wrestling at the NCAA Division II level Gagne will have an extra challenge: he also enlisted in the Army National Guard.
“I’ve been looking into it since about the middle of junior year,” Gagne said. “I’ve been checking out the different branches. The guard just called to me a bit more. I get to go to school. Still. I can wrestle in college. They help pay for most of my college. It just seemed like it worked out really good for me.”
As friends, family, teammates, coaches and military recruiters were present as Gagne made his future official it’s no secret that he left an impact during his time at Escanaba.
“I love to come help during the youth practices,” Gagne said. “I love working with the younger kids and teaching them moves. I hope that they learn to try as hard as I did, and that anything is a possibility. They can make it.”
