Jets earn doubleheader sweep over Broncos

BARK RIVER — An excellent defensive effort combined with timely hitting powered North Central boys baseball to a pair of victories over Bark River-Harris here Thursday. The Jets took game one 12-6 and the second game 7-0.
The Jets jumped out to the early lead after Aidyn Burton tripled to score a run and Brooks Castle singled, scoring another run. The Jets also added three runs on errors by the Broncos to take a 5-0 lead.
“We did a good job of putting the bat on the ball,” Jets’ coach Ben Snyder said. “We have been working hard as a team on things we need to get better at and this team has grown a lot from the first time we played these guys.”
The Jets added a run in the third on an error to put the Jets up 6-1.The Broncos rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth as Andrew Johnson connected on an RBI single to bring in Jacob Mileski.
The Jets responded in a big way as they put up six runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by an RBI-single by Kaden Malone.
Sam Salo earned the win in game one allowing no runs on one hit with zero strikeouts and zero walks.
The second game was all Jets as they flew to a shutout victory. Malone went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in a pair of runs.
“This was probably my favorite game of the year so far,” Malone said. “The energy from the boys in the second game was the best it has been and it was nice to come back and sweep them after they swept us.”
Salo pitched a complete game for the Jets allowing zero runs on four hits with zero strikeouts and one walk in five innings of work.
“Every single position made a play today,” Salo said. “I’m not going to overpower you with speed, I throw strikes, make them put it in play and let the defense work behind and I feel they all did great today.”
The Broncos return to action today as they face Stephenson at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton. The Jets Travel to North Dickinson on Thursday.
