Esky tennis finishes third at GNC finals
ESCANABA — Marquette was the site for the Great Northern Conference tennis match on Tuesday.
Escanaba finished third with 21 points behind Marquette who came in first with 36 points and Kingsford who finished second with 33 points. West Iron County finished fourth with 16 points and Gladstone finished fifth with eight points.
The Eskymos were able to place three of their doubles teams in the finals but were unable to win that final match.
At No. 1 doubles Escanaba’s Alex Morgan and Andrew Lord came up short in a very entertaining and close match against Kingsford’s Isaac Lebouef and Jacob Crockford 3-6, 4-6.
Escanaba’s Adam Prey and Caden Fulsher fell to Marquette’s Lucas Belkowski and Connor Henry 5-7, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles and at No. 3 doubles Loic Fletcher and Logan Stephens lost to Marquette’s Winston Leonard and Connor Dunn 1-6, 1-6.
The Eskymos also had two third place finishes on the day with Connor Howes at No. 2 singles and Brandon Gardner and Nick Garcia at No. 4 doubles.
Howes had a very close match against Danny Gross of Munising as he picked up a 8-6 victory.
The best match was probably at No. 3 as the Eskymos team of Stephens and Fletcher picked up a victory over Kingsford’s Daniel Arcand and Gavin Strong in a pair of 7-5 sets.
