Esky baseball splits midweek doubleheader with Negaunee
NEGAUNEE — A baseball doubleheader on Wednesday between Escanaba and Negaunee ended in a split as the Eskymos won the first game 7-6 and dropped the second game 8-2.
Esky’s Brian Boutilier got the scoring started for the Eskymos in the top of the second inning as he hit a ground ball to the pitcher and reached on a n error scoring two runs.
The Miners responded in the bottom half as Aiden Steele drew a bases loaded walk and Tristan Slater connected on a single to right field, scoring two and the Miners led 3-2.
In the top of the third, Escanaba junior Lennox Peacock hit an RBI double to left to tie the game and Alex Ison hit a sacrifice fly to bring in a run and put the Eskymos back in front 4-3.
Owen Fields later scored on a throwing error and the Eskymos led 5-3 after three innings.
The Eskymos led 7-3 going into the bottom of the fifth. The Miners added three runs as Jack Siik singled to bring in a run and Evan Dellangello doubled to bring in the second run and Ian Engstrom scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 7-6.
Slater drew a walk to start the sixth inning however the next three batters went down in order to end the game.
Bryce Bichler picked up the win for the Eskymos allowing three runs on four hits.
In the second game, Morgan Robar collected three hits for the Miners as he doubled in the third and fourth inning as well as a single in the fifth to power the Miners to a 8-2 win.
Robar Alson got the win on the mound allowing zero runs on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk in five innings of work.
