Escanaba baseball falls to Green Bay Notre Dame

GREEN BAY — Season openers can be a hit or a miss. Unless your Escanaba baseball, who knocked off a fair amount of off-season rust in a 16-6 road loss to Green Bay Notre Dame on Tuesday.

The Eskymos saw positives with four stolen bases from freshman Bryce Bickler, a two-hit day from junior Brian Boutilier and two strong showing on the mound from juniors Lennox Peacock and Cannon Arnt. Peacock needed 13 pitches to strike out the side in the first. Arnt walked two and fanned two in an inning of work while scoring a run and swiping two bases.

The Eskymos claimed a 5-2 lead midway through four innings. GB Notre Dame proceeded to score five runs in its half of the fourth, three in the fifth and six in the sixth. Six Esky pitchers combined to allow 16 runs (11 earned) off eight hits with 13 walks in the season opener.

Both squads committed two errors.

The Eskymos return to action and stay in the state of Wisconsin this weekend for games against Lake Mills, Kewaunee and Northland Pines.
