Braves drop two to Negaunee

GLADSTONE — A whopping 23 stolen bases was key in Negaunee’s 17-6 victory over Gladstone in the first game of a doubleheader. Negaunee also won the second game 7-1 on Tuesday.
In game one, Negaunee got on the board in the top of the first inning scoring five runs. Owen Cardinal singled, scoring two runs. Evan Dellangelo also singled to score a run. The other two runs were scored on stolen bases.
The Braves responded in the bottom of the first. Gavin Frossard drew a walk that scored a run. Austin Pepin had an RBI single. Bret Seger was struck by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in another run and Vinny Rebholz and Casey Alworden each had a run-producing single as the Braves tied the game at five.
Negaunee flipped the game on its head in the top of the second inning as the Miners put up another five spot on the Braves on only two hits in the inning.
“Credit to Negaunee they did the things needed to win,” Braves coach Tyler Swanson said. “When you play good teams you can’t give them extra outs. We gave them extra opportunities and they took advantage of them.”
Kiilean Ryan picked up the win for the Miners allowing five runs on five hits with four strikeouts and six walks.
Braves pitcher Cooper Sanville had a tough day allowing 10 runs on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks in one and two thirds innings.
In game two, The Braves were first on the board in the first inning as Cooper Sanville hit a sacrifice fly to score a run and give the Braves a 1-0 lead.
The game remained a 1-0 game til the fourth inning when the Miners pushed three runs across highlighted by an RBI single By Dellangelothat put the Miners up 3-1.
Negaunee added four runs in the top of the sixth to secure the win.
Dellangello got the win for the Miners giving up one run on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
