ESCANABA –Week 1 of high school football didn’t have its stereotypical lights on Friday night.

Here’s what happened out of town on Thursday.

Rapid River 36, Engadine 14

The Rockets started their season at 1-0, recovering three fumbles and totaling 10 tackles for loss. Joseph Thorbahn had 16 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown. Eddie Forslund had 13 carries for 59 yards to go along with one catch for 20 yards and a score. Lane Olson was 4-for-15 for 70 yards and two touchdowns for the Rockets.

Pickford 40, North Central 12

The Jest were bottled to 191 yards of total offense and finished 2-of-13 on third down to start 0-1. Senior Lane Gorzinski finished with 82 yards rushing on 27 carries and was 6-of-8passing while leading the team with nine tackles.

Pickford possessed the ball for 36 minutes to North Central’s 12 minutes.
