GLADSTONE — It was a beautiful sunny day in Gladstone as the Indians played host to Marquette at Don Olsen Field.

Logan Peterson got a lead-off single to start the first inning for the Blues. Blake Walther hit a RBI single to left to give the Blues a 1-0 lead. Easton Miller singled and Nick Pantti walked to load the bases and Gibson Jezewski singled to centerfield to score two runs and extend the lead to 3-0. Isaac Sarles also hit an RBI single and Carsen Belanger hit a ground ball to the shortstop and reached on an error with another run crossing the plate. Dallas Cobe had a RBI double to give Marquette a 6-0 lead after one.

Gladstone started off slow as Sarles sent the first six batters down in order and the Blues led 7-0 after two innings of play. “We were the fresher of two teams tonight,” Blues coach Mark Pantti said. “We have a tremendous respect for Joe and his squad. They are coming off a weekend tournament and we had the week off so we were just fresher than them.”

With runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the third inning, Cooper Sanville hit a line drive single to centerfield to score the first run for the Indians and Marquette led 7-1.

Miller doubled in the top of the sixth to extend the Blues lead to 8-1. In the bottom of the sixth inning Austin Pepin drew a lead-off walk that was followed up by a two-run home run by Aedan Creten to cut the deficit to 8-3. John Soderman singled on a line drive to left then later scored on a double by Isaac Ketchum and Marquette’s lead was down to four. “Our kinds didn’t give up,” Indians coach Joe Darmogray said. “We got the bat on the ball made some hits and Isiah pitched a good game for us in relief.”

Marquette added three runs in the top of the seventh to put the game on ice. Sarles was credited with the win allowing four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Ketchum was credited with the loss for Gladstone as he didn’t make it through the first inning allowing six runs on six hits with no strikeouts and one walk.
