MAUSTON, Wis. –Fresh off season opening win over Iron Mountain, Escanaba baseball tripped south to the state of Wisconsin for three games on Friday and Saturday. Here’s what went down:

Escanaba 14, Flambeau 2

Esky clung to a 3-2 lead after five innings. The flood gates opened in the Eskymo half of the sixth.

Chase Cloutier and Nick Chiu came through with RBI singles in the frame. Flambeau did itself no favors, allowing four runs off errors, one off a wild pitch and one off a bases loaded walk to give the orange and black an 11-2 advantage midway through the sixth.

Esky added insurance runs in its half of the seventh behind RBI doubles from Ben Johnson, who later scored on a wile pitch, and Brian Boutlier for the ultimate 14-3 lead.

Johnson finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and scored three times while tossing four hitless innings with one walks and seven strikeout across four innings of relief. Bon LaChance took the win, allowing two runs (one earned) off two hits with four walks and five punchouts across three innings of work.

Eli Gardner drew three walks and scored twice.

Escanaba 13, Lake Mills 9

For the third-straight game, Esky used a big inning to bury its opponent. This time, it came with two outs in the second and a 2-1 lead in hand.

After a Cloutier RBI single and LaChance drawing a bases loaded walk for a 4-2 lead, Mikaiden Hughes came up to the dish. He cranked a 3-2 pitch for a line drive to center field, clearing the pond with a three-run triple for a 7-1 lead. Gardner drove Hughes home in the ensuing at bat with a single for an 8-1 lead.

Reese Korhonen drove in a run by simply taking four-consecutive pitches for a bases loaded walk to cap off the seven-run outburst for a 9-2 lead.

Lake Mills clapped back with a five-run outburst in the third, but LaChance kept Esky firmly in the driver’s seat.

The senior delivered with a two-run single in the Esky half of the third and a two-run double in the fourth to balloon the lead to 13-7 after four innings.

Cannon Arnt claimed the win, allowing six runs (three earned) off five hits to go with a pair of free passes and three punchouts. Chiu allowed three runs (two earned) off five hits with four strikeouts in four innings of relief.

LaChance finished 3-for-3 with five RBI. Hughes finished 2-for-4 with five RBI.

Fond du Lac 12, Escanaba 2

Esky tied the game at 2 with a two-run triple from Ashton Rymkos, but it would be the only offense the orange and black generated.

Garnder finished 2-for-3. LaChance, Rymkos and Brody Ison also registered base hits.

Lennox Peacock took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) off two hits with nine walks and six strikeouts across 2 2/3 innings.

The Eskymos travel to face Menominee at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
