BARK RIVER — A powerful third inning surge in game one propelled Bark River-Harris baseball to a pair of mercy rule victories , 18-3 and 11-1, over North Dickinson on Monday.

The Broncos improve to 4-1 on the season with the wins.

“We have gotten off to a great start this season,” Broncos coach Al Botwright said. “Our depth allows other people to get opportunities with big leads and everyone is capitalizing on the opportunities presented to them.”

The Broncos led 7-3 going into the bottom of the third inning. Junior Lucas Hall got a lead-off single for the Broncos. Freshman Gabe Spear came into the game as a pinch runner and stole second base. Freshman Dane Schmitt reached on a line drive error by shortstop Jason Graham and Spear advanced to third on the play. Junior Dominick Lantagne singled scoring Spear and advancing Schmitt to third.

Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Ben Shiverski was hit by a pitch that brought in another run. Charlie Guenette was next at bat for the Broncos and reached on a groundball error by Graham that allowed two more runs to score and the Broncos led 11-3.

After junior Troy Johnson drew a walk senior Manny Oswald hit a ground ball single to score a run. Gabe Spear followed it up with a fly ball single to right to score another run and the Broncos led 13-3.

After Dane Schmitt struck out looking Lantagne and Ethan Ives each hit singles on back-to-back at bats that each scored a run. Jacob Mileski was next to the plate and connected with the ball resulting in a two run double to put the Broncos up by 15.

“We have all been seeing the ball well,” Mileski said. “We are being patient on the balls out of the zone and crushing on the pitches thrown down the middle of the plate.”

The Nordics got on the board first to start game two as Graham hit a single to left field and sophomore Spencer Kramer hit a RBI double to right to put the Nordics up 1-0.

The lead was short lived as the Broncos pushed three runs across in the bottom of the first highlighted by a two run triple by Oswald.

The Broncos put the game out of reach in the fourth inning scoring seven runs. Oswald hit a line drive double to centerfield to score a run and freshman Andrew Johnson singled to score a run as the Broncos cruised to victory.

“We hit the ball well today,” Hall said. “Everyone is looking for their pitch and making solid contact.”

The Broncos return to action Friday as they travel to North Central for a doubleheader.
