Norse stay hot, extinguishes Firebirds

WELLS — Sophomore night proved to be a success for Bay College basketball on Wednesday.
The Norse mens’ and womens’ basketball teams earned wins over Kirtland College.
Here’s what went down:
No. 19 Bay College 89, Kirtland 49
Make it 16-straight victories for No. 19 Bay College womens’ basketball. The Norse used a 30-8 first quarter to catapult the blue and green to an 89-49 win over the Firebirds.
Freshman Ashley Burchette led Bay with 27 points, six steals and five assists with five rebounds in 33 minutes of action off the bench. Freshman Sienna Lingle earned a double-double, earning 26 points and 10 boards while adding five steals. Freshman Kennedy Sproule also provided production off the bench, earning 22 points and six rebounds.
The Norse (20-7, 12-0) bottled the Firebirds to 13-of-48 shooting while forcing 30 turnovers.
The No. 19 Norse concluded the regular season with road games against Delta College at 1 p.m. Saturday and a rematch against Mid-Michigan College at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
No. 15 Bay College 106, Kirtland 31
The Norse Men’s team, ranked No. 15 in the NJCAA DII poll, pushed its winning streak to 13 games by throttling the Firebirds 106-31. Bay (25-2, 12-0) used 15-0, 17-0 and 10-0 first-half runs to possess a 52-9 lead at the half and never looked back.
Sophomore Genesis Kemp led the Norse (with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting and finished 4-of-8 from 3-point range. Bay sophomore and Escanaba’s own Connor Smale finished with 17 points and was 5-of-3 from beyond the arc. Sophomore Cade LaFavor earned a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
The Firebirds were held to 19% shooting (11-of-53) from the floor and 2-of-14 from 3-point range.
The No. 15 Norse concluded the regular season with road games against Delta College at 3 p.m. Saturday and a rematch against Mid-Michigan College at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
