Pederson breaks school record, Black Bears win big

GARDEN CORNERS — Freshman Parker Pederson broke the school record for 3-pointers in Big Bay de Noc’s 89-59 victory over Ojibwe Charter on Monday.

Pederson connected on 10 shots from downtown and led all scorers with 36 points.

“It felt pretty good out there,” Pederson said. “I hit my first three shots and I thank my teammates and coaches for my success.”

Pederson also had two rebounds and three steals on the night.

“We’ve been seeing this in practice from Parker,” Black Bears coach Gunnar Mickelson said. “He was 6-of-11 in the first half and the team was like ‘let’s get this for him.’ These kids all grew up around Parker and it really made this a special night.”

Black Bears senior Braedon Thill had 17 points and seven steals in the win and junior Nick DesJarden had another double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Steven Holmes tallied eight points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Ojibwe Charter had Henry Lyon and Pietro Follador each with 20 points in the loss.
