Broncos run wild, throttle Norway in straight sets

HARRIS — Dominating net play propelled Bark River-Harris volleyball team to a victory over Norway in straight sets Tuesday 25-11, 25-11, 25-11.

“This was a great match for the girls,” BR-H coach William Soper said. “Our net play and back line play were top notch tonight.

The Broncos jumped out to an early 7-3 lead in the first stanza. “We wanted to keep our energy level high,” Broncos senior Christina Bower said. “I feel like we played a very well rounded game tonight.” The Broncos continued to pour it on the Knights winning the first set 25-11. BR-H senior Lauren Zawada had a pair of aces in the first set. “We knew coming in to this match we had to have good hitting and communication to have the success were looking for,” Zawada said.

BR-H picked up right where they left off in the second set taking a commanding 7-1 lead to start the stanza. “I learned they are able to take and stay in command of games tonight,” Soper said. The Knights were never able to close the gap dropping the second set 25-11.

The Broncos wasted no time in the third set jumping out to a 10-3 lead. “We didn’t give up,” Norway coach Erika Racine said. “The girls fought hard, but you have to give BR-H credit they are phenomenal at the net and they are a very well coached team.” The Broncos cruised to another 25-11 victory in the third stanza. “We played a tournament this weekend against some bigger schools,” Hoffmeyer said. “I think that the more we play against bigger teams makes us better.”

Broncos senior Lauren Zawada had 13 kills to go along with five aces and two blocks. Hope Varoni had 51 assists and four digs. Bower had 27 assists, 12 kills and one ace. McKenzie Hoffmeyer had four digs and four kills.

The Broncos return to action for a road match at 7:30p.m. in Rapid River.
