Four U.P. golf courses get national recognition

ESCANABA — Four notable Upper Peninsula golf courses have again received national recognition.

Marquette Greywalls is ranked second in Michigan for best places to play golf in this golf-blessed state.

Sweetgrass, which was named national golf course of the year by the Golf Course Owners Association in 2022, is tied for 10th with Pilgrim’s Run in Pierson.

Sage Run, which is part of the Island Resort & Casino operation in Harris, is ranked No. 19. Iron Mountain TimberStone is No. 20.

The four courses, located within 75 miles of each other, offer special advertising stay-and-play packages in regional golf magazines entitled “The Perfect 4-Some.”

They are all listed in the modern division, which includes courses built since 1960.

Arcadia Bluff is ranked No. 1 in Michigan.
