ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eskymos played host to the GNC tennis meet on Tuesday, May 23rd, at The new Abramson Courts.
The Eskymos claimed the GNC title with a score of 24, KIngsford was second with 22 and Marquette was third with 20.
Eskymos senior Dawson Williams won the number one singles match in three hard fought sets over Menominee’s Brock Murphy 2-6,6-3,6-0 Williams has been a strong player all season for the Eskymos.
Escanaba’s Sam Rivera defeated Chase Thompson of Marquette in two sets 6-1,6-3 and Escanaba’s Matt Dykema picked up the win in the number three singles match over Kingsford’s Cale Harris in two impressive sets 6-1,6-0. Escanaba’s also won the number three doubles match with Nick Challier and Vincent Guindon defeating Craig Swieg and Hunter Hulkonen of Kingsford in two sets 6-0 and a very competitive 7-6 set.
Escanaba’s Julian Cashen finished second in the number two singles match, number one doubles Vlad Osterdahl and Evan St. Peter and number two doubles Nathan Lord and Jackson Cousineau both finished in third, while number four doubles Connor Howes and Reid Brazeau finished in fourth place. Every score was important for the Eskymos in the narrow win.
