Bay Norse take 17-15 loss from Alpena Community College
ALPENA — Fifteen runs weren’t quite enough for the Bay College Norse in the second game of a softball doubleheader here Sunday in a 17-15 loss to Alpena Community College.
Ellie Miller and Rachael Winkel homered for the Norse, who dropped all five games in the weekend series.
Sierra Jones collected three hits and drove in five runs for the Norse, who fell to 11-26 overall after their eighth straight loss. Winkel and Lexi Kacalo also had three hits. Avery Sorochan, Winkel, Miller, Desiree Bender and Ava Mottin added two apiece.
Makayla Kamyszek went 4-for-4 for the Lumberjacks. Jade Schultz and Avery Zipp had a home run and three hits each. Breya Domke and Mid Peninsula graduate Shae Lampinen added two apiece.
Both teams finished with 18 hits. The Norse, however, committed seven errors.
Belanger, who pitched 4 2/3 innings, took the loss. She struck out three, walked two and surrendered 15 runs on 17 hits. Schultz worked five frames in relief of Kamyszek and got the win. She fanned five, walked one and allowed five runs on eight hits.
In Sunday’s opener, Miller had three hits, including a solo home run, in a 5-4 loss in eight innings.
The Norse led 4-2 in the seventh before the Lumberjacks tied the score in their half of the inning and won it in the eighth.
Belanger and Winkel added two hits each and Isabella Brabant pitched seven frames for a no decision. WInkel took the loss in relief.
Brabant struck out three, walked five and gave up four runs on six hits.
Schultz got the complete-game victory, striking out 12, walking five and allowing four runs on 12 hits.
Sorochan ripped a home run, but that’s all the Norse could muster in Saturday’s 6-1 loss.
Jones and WInkel, who pitched the entire contest, had two hits each. Paige Wooden led Alpena with two.
Winkel fanned five, walked six and gave up seven hits. Schultz also went the distance, striking out seven, walking none and allowing eight hits.
In Friday’s opener, Schultz stuck out four, walked one and gave up five hits in Alpena’s 10-0 victory in five frames.
Miller led the Norse with two hits. Alpena’s Madison Wilkenson went 3-for-3. Schultz finished 2-for-2 and drove in three runs. Abby Platt also had two hits and three RBIs.
Winkel pitched 2 2/3 innings and absorbed the loss. She struck out two, walked one and gave up 10 runs on eight hits.
Sorochan, Jones and Winkel homered in Friday’s second game, but the Norse still dropped an 8-6 decision.
Jones added two hits and three RBIs. Sorochan also finished with two hits. Schultz and Kamyszek led the Lumberjacks with three hits apiece and Elizabeth Romel had a pair.
Drabant pitched the whole contest and took the loss. She struck out one, walked two and surrendered 14 hits.
The Norse host Grand Rapids Community College in a five-game set this weekend.
