North Central heads to finals

MARION, Mich. — The top-ranked North Central Jets punched their ticket to the eight-player state football finals, posing a 36-12 triumph over Marion in a state semifinal contest here Saturday.

This marked a state-record 36th straight victory for the Jets (12-0), who meet Mendon in the Division 2 state title contest at Northern Michigan University’s Superior Dome Saturday at 2 p.m.

Senior Luke Gorzinski ran for three touchdowns and passed for another score.

Lane Gorzinski ended the scoring with a nine-yard TD run with four minutes, 35 seconds left in the contest.

The Jets took an 8-0 lead on Luke Gorzinski’s 21-yard pass to Elijah Gorzinski with 4:53 remaining in the first quarter.

A two-yard run by Mason Salisbury brought Marion within 8-6 with 75 seconds left in the opening frame.

Luke Gorzinski added TD runs of one and 36 yards, helping the Jets gain a 22-6 cushion with 2:24 remaining in the second stanza.

Salisbury, however, brought Marion within 22-12 with his second TD 39 seconds before halftime.

The Jets extended their lead to 29-12 early in the fourth when Luke Gorzinski scored on a 14-yard run.

North Central collected 417 yards in total offense, including 234 through the air.

Luke Gorzinski completed 13-of-23 passes and ran for 106 yards on 21 carries. Dillon Raab added 60 on the ground in 12 attempts.

Lane Gorzinzki caught four passes for 109. Raab hauled in six aerials for 57 and Dylan Plunger had a catch for 41.

Marion finished with 188 yards in offense. Salisbury hit 3-of-10 passes for 81 yards and an interception and ran two dozen times for 95.

Raab led the Jets on defense with seven tackles. Luke Gorzinski and Jordan Messenger finished with five apiece.
