ST. NICHOLAS — Rachel Johnson recorded 14 kills, helping the Mid Peninsula Wolverines post a 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-11) volleyball victory over the Rapid River Rockets in their Division 4 district opener here Wednesday night.

“Rachel had a real good night at the net and Kora (Prater) and Josie (Hemminger) carried us at the service line,” said Mid Pen coach Emily Kayser. “We had some nice service runs and passed the ball well. We had very few service errors and shared the ball well. Our team chemistry was real good again and we had great fan support.

Alexa Haring had two kills and 17 assists for the Wolverines, who host Superior Central in tonight’s championship match at 7.

The Cougars advanced by taking a 3-0 decision from Munising Wednesday.
