GAYLORD -- Second-ranked Gladstone got back on the winning track here Friday night in a 22-14 football victory over the Gaylord Blue Devils.

Junior quarterback Nate Young scored the game-winner on a seven-yard run early in the fourth quarter and Vinny Howes made a pair of clutch defensive plays in this non-conference contest, helping the Braves end their two-game losing streak.

By winning, the Braves virtually clinched homefield advantage through the first two rounds of the Division 6 playoffs.

The Braves (6-2) marched 92 yards in 12 plays, taking an 8-0 lead on Young's three-yard pass to Kaden Gibbs and two-point conversion by Cole Potier.

Gaylord (5-3) shaved its deficit to 8-6 on Caleb Aungst's 14-yard aerial to Brady Pretzlaff.

Potier then gave the Braves a 14-6 cushion on a 31-yard run in the third quarter.

The Blue Devils, however, tied the score on 20-yard run by Ty Bensinger.

Gladstone answered with a 73-yard run drive, concluded by Young's game-winning score.

Potier rushed for 96 yards on 24 carries, giving him 903 for the season. Young hit 8-of-13 passes for 111 yards and a TD and Tyler Darmogray caught three for 41.

Aungst was 5-of-11 passes for 74 yards and two interceptions and Russell Hush ran 11 times for 64.

The Braves end their regular season by hosting Escanaba Friday at 7 p.m.
