ST. NICHOLAS — The Carney-Nadeau Wolves got back to .500 here Thursday night, earning a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-22) volleyball victory over the Mid Peninsula Wolverines.

“I thought Mid Pen served well tonight,” said Wolves’ coach Steve Kedsch. “They really challenged our serve receives. It took a little while for us to get going offensively, and they were pretty scrappy on defense. Our key was staying disciplined on defense.”

C-N junior Samantha Kedsch collected seven service aces, two kills, 19 assists and eight digs. Sophomore Mariska Laurila added nine kills and 10 digs. Senior Hailey DeGrave had four aces, five kills and three digs freshman Elodie Lenca finished with four aces, four kills and 11 digs.

“We had a real good serving night,” said coach Kedsch. “Hailey had a good night at the net and serving. Samantha had a real good night setting and serving, and Mariska had a good night at the net.”

Mid Peninsula coach Emily Kayser was happy with the way the Wolverines played despite the loss.

“It was a competitive match tonight,” she said. “The first and third set, we played great. The second, we struggled with serve-receive. We were making too many mistakes, but we shared the ball well.

“Josie Avery did a phenomenal job at the net. Our libero, Cora Prater, kept the ball in place for us tonight.”

The Wolves (2-2), who won the JV match in two sets, visit Stephenson Tuesday. The Wolverines visit Rapid River Thursday.
