Wolverines top Rockets
ST. NICHOLAS — The Mid Peninsula Wolverines overcame the second set blues here Thursday night in a 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23) volleyball triumph over the Rapid River Rockets.
“In the second set, we got into a little bit of a lull,” said Mid Pen coach Emily Kayser. “We always come out flat in the second set for some reason. We weren’t talking as much, and Rapid River came out firing on all cylinders. Although the girls played fantastic overall. Our setter Alexa Haring is sharing the ball all over the court. Everyone got involved and made the stat sheet. Kora Prater got in on a lot of plays. She kept our offense going.”
Rachel Johnson led the Wolverines with five service aces, nine kills and two blocks. Haring added five aces, three kills, 22 assists and 10 digs. Avery Croasdell recorded 12 kills, and Cora Prater collected 25 digs.
“Their libero was everywhere,” said Kayser. “She kept a lot of plays alive for Rapid River. This was a great effort by our team.”
In the JV match, Gallie Haring served for 16 aces, leading Mid Pen to a 25-17, 25-6 victory.
The Wolverines host Munising Wednesday. The Rockets host Stephenson Monday.
