Rapid falls to Munising

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid River football team fell 46-0 to Munising in Rapid River Friday.

“Execution and simple mistakes that we have to clean up (were what hampered us),” Rockets coach Jack Smith said. “It really is that — one block away from a broken run or one tackle away from stopping them. It’s just the little things that are nagging at us right now.”

Smith highlighted Rockets (2-2) quarterback Blake Lundquist who played while recovering from illness.

“Blake Lundquist came back tonight,” he said. “He’s been sick for a couple days. He completed 10 of 25 for 100 yards passing, and he’s still not feeling the best. So, that wasn’t bad.

Evan Horowitz stepped in at a-back — our starting a-back Taj Cavanaugh wasn’t here today, so (he) stepped in. He had 43 yards rushing. He really stepped up to the plate for that. He also had 13 yards passing. Texas Cambron had 65 yards receiving, so he stepped up to the plate today and took care of that for us.”

Defensively, Rapid River clamped down in the second half, allowing no more scores.

“On the defensive side, Carter Johnson had nine tackles and a pile of assists,” Smith said. “Brad Taylor had four solo tackles.

“They never scored in the second half, so that was a plus for us. Our defense stepped up in the second half. We made a couple adjustments and made some defensive stands. So, we’ll take what we learned from this and hopefully move on.”

Rapid River travels to Pickford (3-1) Friday.

Starting at $4.00/week.
