MARINETTE — The Escanaba cross country teams earned their first victories this season, sweeping both ends of the Marinette Invitational Saturday.

The Esky boys edged Wrightstown, Wis. 42-47 and Coleman, WIs. took third with 78 points.

Esky’s girls scored 48 points, followed by Marinette 62 and Wrightstown 71.

Senior Dan Smith led the Esky boys in fifth place, covering the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes, 55.2 seconds. He was followed by junior Nate Lanaville in seventh (19:59), senior Nick Hamlin ninth (20:27.3), sophomore William Weise 10th (20:30.2) and junior Ben Smith 17th (21:10.6).

Wrightstown senior won at 19:06.8 and junior teammate Jackson Lamers was runner-up (19:09.8).

Menominee senior Attica Brandt won the girls’ race in 22:33.9, followed by Marinette sophomore (22:50) and Stephenson junior Kayela Putnam (23:20.4).

Junior Annabelle Neumeier paced Esky in fifth (23:38.5), followed by sophomores Alisha Mable sixth (23:54.4) and Sophia Weaver 12th (25:35.7), senior Veronica Spreitzer (26:56) and sophomore Grace Hamlin (27:33.5).

The Eskymos travel to Banat for Wednesday’s Stephenson Invitational.
