Bark River tops Cougars

HARRIS — The Bark River-Harris volleyball team swept Superior Central 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-19) in Harris Thursday.

“Overall, we started out strong and gained momentum through game two, which allowed us to sub a little more freely,” Broncos coach Jennifer Ives said. “Our communication improved through games one and two. In game three, we lost some of our communication and, with that, energy, but we stuck it out to win in three.”

Ives also commented on the gelling of the team as it gets more matches under its belt.

“The girls are starting to mesh, play as a team and trust each other,” she said. ” That is good to see in this early season, and we will really focus on that and expect growth in that area — especially as we look mid to end of season.”

Bark River’s Hope Varoni and Makenzie Hoffmeyer led the team in serving with two aces apiece. Varoni also topped the list in assists with 16, and Hoffmeyer collected five digs. Leading in kills was Carley Varoni with nine, followed by Lauren Zawada and Kaylee Redbear with six each. Nina Bower notched eight digs to lead the team.

The Broncos host Manistique Thursday.

Starting at $3.50/week.
