IRON RIVER — Joe Quinn overcame a double bogey on the 15th hole to win the 17th Upper Peninsula Golf Association senior men’s championship here Tuesday.

Quinn shot 75-76 – 151 to finish a stroke ahead of Larry Bratonia of Gladstone and two-time former champion Scott Saari of Ishpeming Wawonowin. Saari shot 75-77, and Bratonia, who won in 2017, shot 76-76.

It was the first time a UPGA tournament was held at Young’s Golf Course.

Jeff McCall of Escanaba finished fourth at 153, and Highland Golf Club’s Mark Ray, who won the title in 2019, finished fifth at 155 in the field of 142 players.

Quinn held a three-stroke lead after 14 holes before his double-bogey 7. Saari birdied No. 16 to get within a stroke of Quinn, who parred Nos. 17-18 to secure the title. Bratonia, who had moved into a share of first place on No. 16, then bogeyed No. 17 to fall a stroke back.
