North Central sweeps Cougars

HERMANSVILLE — The North Central Jets baseball team earned a pair of wins Tuesday as they defeated the Superior Central Cougars 6-0 and 12-2 in a doubleheader in Hermansville.

Adrian Mercier pitched a two-hitter in the opening with one walk. The sophomore hurler struck out eight and finished the game with 78 pitches.

The Jets opened up a five-run lead and never looked back in the second inning as Alex Naser, Andrew Webber and Mercier each put balls in play for single RBIs.

Luke Gorzinski had two hits and scored two of the Jets’ six runs.

Dakota Maki absorbed the loss for Superior Central, allowing two earned runs, six total, on seven hits. He fanned nine at the plate.

Game two ended after five innings with a score of 12-2. Jesse Sampson pitched for the NC squad as he struck out seven and walked two. He allowed just three hits for one earned run.

Gorzinski (3-4 with two doubles and three RBIs), Naser (3-4) and Mercier (two hits and three RBIs) all had the bats going again in the nightcap for North Central.

The Jets host a doubleheader Monday next as Norway makes their way to Hermansville.
