Broncos earn two wins from Cougars

EBEN — The Bark River-Harris Broncos took two victories in two vastly different games Monday night against the Superior Central Cougars in Eben.

The game went the distance, with the Broncos winning 10-0 and all of their runs coming in the final inning after a pitching battle between BR-H’s Travis Mack and Superior Central’s Dakota Maki.

The second game ended prematurely due to darkness after four innings. While the Broncos, again, scored 10 points, the Cougars kept things close, trailing by one for a final of 10-9.

“Game one was your classic pitchers duel between Travis Mack and Dakota Maki,” said Broncos coach Al Botwright. “It was scoreless through five complete innings, and we were lucky enough to get Dakota’s pitch count high enough that they had to pull him and then we had some really good at-bats.”

Mack toed the rubber the whole game, fanning eight, walking two and only giving up four hits in the shutout win.

Mack and Reese Korhonen each had a pair of RBIs in the sixth inning rally

Game two only saw four innings of play, split on the mound for the Broncos by Charlie Guenette and Dominick Langtagne, who each took two innings.

Botwright commented that both did well in tough conditions.

“They did well,” he said. “They threw strikes. It was not the easiest environment to play defense. It was very windy, there was a lot of dust and Superior Central was putting the ball in play. Anything in the air

was really, really, treacherous trying to track it down.”

Offensively, Ethan Ives and Josiah Javurek continue to fulfill their roles as the meat and the lead-off hitter in the lineup, respectively, backing that up with solid base running added Botwright.

The Broncos play the North Central Jets Thursday.

Starting at $3.50/week.
