Rohde earns second AP coach of the year award
ESCANABA — After winning her fourth girls basketball state championship, Sara (Boyer) Rohde of Green Bay Notre Dame has earned another award.
The former Rapid River High School standout has been named Associated Press state coach of the year. It is the second time she has received that award, also winning in 2013 when the Tritons were also state champions.
The Tritons defeated Pewaukee 68-54 to win the state title recently at the Resch Center in Green Bay. They finished 29-1 and outscored their regular season opponents by 34.6 points and their post-season foes by 30.6.
It was their second straight title, which Notre Dame also did in 2013-14.
“We have been very lucky to have some kids who do work really hard and they want to do well,” Rohde told the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “I do feel very fortunate that we have a lot of great kids who are just great kids all around but they are also amazing basketball players.”
Rohde has compiled a 230-62 record in her 11 seasons at Notre Dame.
She was an all-state performer in basketball and track at Rapid River, then was a four-year letter winner and 1,000-point scorer at Wisconsin-Green Bay for Bessemer native Kevin Borseth.
Rohde is a 2011 inductee into the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame. Borseth is also a UPSHF inductee.
